My favourite Brisbane restaurant and for good reason, incredible food, and great service where the owners and staff actually care about your experience. I’ve tried lots of different dishes here over the years, but always come back to chicken fried chicken, it’s just that good. Expect exceptional food with generous portions at reasonable prices.
Do yourself a favour and visit Creole Soul Kitchen. It’s a hidden gem in Brisbane. Marc, Leena and team are so friendly! (Ask Marc about Elvis).
Bloody brilliant food! Husband has always wanted to try here after spending some time working and living in Louisiana a few years ago. He had the chicken fried chicken and said it was as good as any he has had. I had the Soul Kitchen Prawns - very delicious with some Creole fries to share. We were there on a lunch mid week and there were a few diners around us. Service was lovely and prompt. We sat outside. The chef even came out to offer me more bread to clean up my plate properly! I never had this type of food before so was pleasantly surprised and loved it. I rarely have dessert but we decided to give it a crack (share) and it was great, homemade vanilla ice cream (from memory it was apple pie or similar - a special not on the regular menu). Can't wait to go back. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Overall the food was ok. Most of the issues were textural. The pork belly was way too hard (instead of crunchy), tho the flavour wasn't bad. The crocodile sausage was a bit rough and the garlic bread wasn't crispy enough.
The eggplant batons were nice and the lamb ribs were beautiful - the meat was tender and flavour was great.
Outstanding. Really great service, friendly/relaxed but professional. Between 3 diners we ordered 3 entree 2 main dishes and all were very tasty, cooked to perfection served fairly quick and piping hot. Helpings were so generous we unfortunately had no room for dessert, next time. I really liked how they serve their complimentary ice water, topped up regularly without having to ask. The host was a lot of fun and welcoming. Looking forward to coming back...
Had the Gulf Coast pasta for dinner. Fresh ingredients great flavours, charming dining space with authentic decor. Had a lovely chat with the owner, appreciate that he made the time to engage with another expat. Overall a great dining experience and highly recommend.
Here is a great little local mostly serving creole food in Brisbane. The service was attentive, and despite not having much room and an open dining area, they accommodated our small group despite not having a booking. In terms of food, the chicken fried steak seems to be the house speciality. I ordered the gumbo ya ya, however I think the chef forgot to add the prawns. It was tasty and filling . We ordered a pizza to share as well. That was reasonable with a nice thin crust. The place is worth a try, but reserve a table in advance.
Gumbo ya-ya & Chicken fried chicken was great + wonderful cocktails on our first visit 12 months ago, second visit 6 months ago the roux was a tad burnt in the Gumbo - could not be saved. If little black specks start to appear, it's time to throw it away—even if you've been stirring for half an hour. There's no way to save a burnt roux. Unfortunate, but shouldn't have been served. Third visit recently, sadly po-boys were flat, lacking fullness, and flavour (I've had better from a food truck) and the $15+ fries with cheese and gravy were essentially very dry curly fries with hard melted cheese, however the gravy was actually quite delicious. We really love this little place and hope it is successful. Just a few tiny tweaks necessary!
Creole Soul Kitchen is a lovely, put together restaurant that stands out on Boundary Steeet. I’d been before for a sandwich but dinner was a whole new level.
Holy mackerel. Best food I’ve eaten in a while, and best chicken I’ve ever had. My partner and I got to fries, chicken fried chicken, chicken biscuit, and churros. The fries were curly this time, which was a fun change. The chicken I would 100% recommend, it was delicious, and the slaw and mash was great with it.
Aussies, don’t shy away from the white gravy or biscuit with the chicken meals. I’d never had either before but the white gravy us like the lovechild of pork gravy and bechamel, and the biscuit is like a sweet and savoury treat that reminds me of zucchini quiche.
I also got a Dr Pepper and it was US formula, which is a rare find given most supermarkets around here sell UK formula, so if you prefer corn syrup soda to Ace K they have it here :) !
Overall the food, service, and general atmosphere was great. Will go again, with someone who’s willing to try the pot roast, boil, and gumbo with me.
